The University of Virginia and the University of Virginia Medical Center are committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all faculty, staff, students, Medical Center employees, patients, and visitors. In compliance with Virginia Code §23.1-805, the University and Medical Center have established a multidisciplinary violence prevention committee and threat assessment team (TAT). 

The violence prevention committee has developed policies and procedures for the prevention of violence on Grounds, including assessment of and intervention with individuals whose behavior poses a threat to the safety of the University community. The TAT is the body responsible for executing those policies and procedures. The Associate Vice President of Safety and Security oversees the University's public safety functions and has appointed the Director of Threat Assessment to serve as the chair of the violence prevention committee and the TAT.
